Dwarf

Physicial Description

Dwarves stand only 4 to 4-1/2 feet tall, but they are so broad and compact that they are, on
average, almost as heavy as humans. Dwarf men are slightly taller and noticeably heavier than dwarf women. Dwarves’ skin is typically deep tan or light brown, and their eyes are dark. Their hair is usually black, gray, or brown, and worn long. Dwarf men value their beards highly and groom them very carefully. Dwarves favor simple styles for their hair, beards, and clothes. Dwarves are considered adults at about age 40, and they can live to be more than 400 years old.

History

Dwarf society is about clan, justice, and honor. Without these three ideals Dwarven society would not exist or so the Dwarves say… Since the Golden Age (Prior to 1st age!) these staunch defenders of the underground have fought adversity, built marvels within the deep, and survived where no other race dares tread… The Dwarves of the current age are as tough and determined as the Dwarves of old and they will stop at nothing to make sure their clans carry on…

There are currently three surviving factions of Dwarves within the world (Though more could exist as Dwarven ingenuity allows them to survive extreme conditions!) The three variants are: Dwarf(Hill), Mountain Dwarf, and Duerger. Currently the only well known variant is the Dwarf(Hill) which is the Dwarf everyone is familiar with…

These Dwarves are spread very thin throughout the known land and have been taken in by other nations. They are not the Dwarves with vast technology and resources, but they are skilled and talented craftsmen with few equals… There are rumors of a few settlements of clans above the surface, which are always being sought after for their goods, services, and mining skills. Trade guilds deny any such settlements exist, though they would be foolish to reveal such a lucrative trade route to anyone…

During the Golden Age prior to the 1st Cataclysm the Dwarves very nearly wiped the Orcs, Goblins, and Yuan-ti out endagering them to a few surface dwelling populations… Even after the 1st Cataclysm, no other race had as significant a foothold within the underdark. In addition, no Dwarven fortress has ever been recorded lost to an invading force of any kind though many were destroyed during the 1st and 2nd cataclysms…
